Women are very often the care provider in the family, but with so many demands on their time they often neglect their own health. That is why it is so important to find ways to help women put their health and wellbeing first.
As Australia’s biggest health event for women, the Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week is dedicated to the health of women, girls and gender-diverse people. This year’s event, which runs from 5th to 11th September, is the 10th anniversary of this unique national health awareness campaign and is a reminder to women to put themselves first. The week will focus on the top five concerns in women’s health: menopause, pelvic health, mind health, movement, and physical health checks.
“Even after our past successful campaigns, women still need reminding to put their health on their ‘to do’ lists. So often they put the needs of family, friends, even their pets, above their own,” says Renea Camilleri, Women’s Health Week and Community Engagement Manager at Jean Hailes for Women’s Health.
In the year that marks shared milestones, Pharmacy 777 has been dedicated to community health for 60 years and is proud to be a Women’s Health Week community partner - supporting good health for all women.
“This week is for all women to put their health first and Pharmacy 777 is offering women’s health advice, health checks, advice about sleep, weight management and post-hospital support,” says Pharmacy 777 pharmacist Tina Jolly.
“Health checks are an important preventative care service that we offer and that can help women live healthy and independent lives. It provides women with choices as well as trusted health advice at every stage of life. Come in and talk to our team about how we can help.”
“Women’s Health Week is a great opportunity to work in collaboration with like-minded organisations -- supporting and connecting women, making them aware of the importance of good health, and improving their health knowledge,” says Janet Michelmore AO, CEO of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health. “I am delighted to be partnering with Pharmacy 777.”
This year’s Women’s Health Week offers a topic for each day, all aimed at helping women, girls and gender-diverse people in Australia take a holistic approach to their health.
Day 1: Check me out – health checks at every age
Day 2: Menopause matters – menopause and perimenopause
Day 3: Pelvic power – pelvic floor health and pelvic pain
Day 4: Mind health – mental wellbeing and brain health
Day 5: Move and improve – physical activity and your health.
Like her late mother, Jean Hailes, Ms Michelmore is passionate about women’s health.
“Women are the greatest influencers of the family and the community’s health. If they’re not in good shape, the chances are their communities are not in great shape either,” she says.
