For 4 years now Pharmacy 777 has been supporting the community through Telethon and making sizeable donations to help sick kids in need.
Part of those donations involve Perth icon Fat Cat, who has been bringing comfort and joy to kids in hospital for decades, helping to take away just a little bit of stress and worry for both kids and their families.
As part of this year’s Telethon fundraising, Pharmacy 777 donated Fat Cat dolls to three different charities.
This year’s beneficiaries were Kiind, Helping Little Hands and Hannah's House.
Kiind was incredibly grateful to receive a donation of Fat Cat dolls thanks to Telethon and Pharmacy 777.
Their Peer Navigation team have been gifting Fat Cat dolls to children with disability and chronic conditions from their Family Resource Centre at Perth Children’s Hospital.
“Fat Cat has been met with hugs, smiles, and excited yells that one mum said must be able to be heard all over the city. Fat Cat’s presence has been a source of happiness for many kids, from a child recovering from surgery to a young girl cuddling Fat Cat in her new pyjamas,” Kiind CEO, Carrie Clark said.
“Kiind would like to sincerely thank Telethon and Pharmacy 777 for their support and generosity.”
Helping Little Hands was founded by two families with lived experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Understanding firsthand how overwhelming and stressful NICU can be, they founded HLH to provide wrap-around support for babies and families in KEMH, PCH and Joondalup NICU wards. HLH provides a range of services from providing home-cooked meals, wellbeing events and travel vouchers. The Connections program helps remove obstacles to NICU attendance, ensuring mums and babies spend as much time together as possible – known to benefit medical outcomes for babies.
“Through the generosity of Pharmacy 777, premature babies have been gifted a Fat Cat toy bringing smiles and joy. We give them to the babies when they return for follow up clinic appointments, most are now toddlers and it's a small gift to celebrate their strength and determination as children born with a truly difficult start to life,” Helping Little Hands founder and CEO, Joanne Beedle said.
“For us at Helping Little Hands, it also shows families that there are people who care even if they haven't met them. Fat Cat has become a very important supporter of Helping Little Hands.”
Hannah’s House vision is to provide care, comfort and joy for every child with life-limiting or complex conditions and their family. They do this through in-home respite care, delivered by Registered Nurses and support workers, as well as play therapies, playgroups and family events. Hannah’s House aims to improve quality of life for these children and their families.
"The cherished Fat Cat donations from Pharmacy 777, have become treasured gifts for our families at Hannah's House. We have been giving the Fat Cats to new Hannah’s House families as part of our Welcome Pack. It’s wonderful to be able to offer these gifts that perfectly exemplify our relationship with Telethon. One mother beautifully expressed, "Sometimes we feel so alone, but it's little gifts like these that mean the world to us." Shared Jonine Collins, CEO of Hannah's House.
"Hannah's House specialises in providing in-home support to families with children facing complex medical needs. Many of the families we assist experience financial challenges, often stemming from one parent having to take on the role of primary caregiver. We extend our deepest gratitude to Pharmacy 777 for enabling us to continue giving these special treasures to families navigating the complexities of health needs. The gifts are a bright spark in what can otherwise be a very dark time for some families"
In 2023, Telethon have supported 107 beneficiaries, delivering life-changing programs, purchasing equipment and funding medical research into childhood diseases and have raised over $77 million.
