When you think of your local community your trusted Pharmacy 777 Pharmacist no doubt springs to mind.
Pharmacists are important community care providers who are available to talk to you about your medications and the general health concerns of you and your family.
Today (Sept 25) is World Pharmacists Day, and this year’s theme is ‘Pharmacy Strengthening Health Systems’.
Pharmacy 777 celebrates its many Pharmacists today, highlighting the critical role they play in our communities.
At a time when our health system needs the unique skills of Pharmacists the most, we recognise the continual support our Community Pharmacists and the team behind them.
“I would like to extend our appreciation to all Community Pharmacists within the Pharmacy 777 network, who are dedicated to serving our communities both in and outside the pharmacy.
“Our team’s passion and commitment is truly remarkable,” Kim Brotherson, Pharmacy 777 Managing Director said.
“Pharmacists provide much-needed advice and intervention in supporting medicine safety, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring timely access to care.
“The role of pharmacists has expanded significantly in recent years, from delivering a wider range of vaccines to pharmacist-initiated treatment for urinary tract infections.
“During the pandemic Pharmacists became a safe and trusted port in the storm for many people and that continues in 2023.”
Pharmacists’ roles are vital in supporting patient health outcomes in the community improve patients’ access to care and ensure the quality use of medicine.
In 2019, ‘Quality Use of Medicine’ and ‘Medicines Safety’ was declared Australia’s 10th National Health Priority. The policy advocates a collaborative approach between healthcare professionals, the patient, their carer and/or family. The statistics show:
-
Between 10% and 67% of medication histories have at least one error, and up to 33% of these errors have the potential to cause patient harm*
-
More than 50% of medication errors occur at transitions of care*
Every point of contact in the health system, especially pharmacist intervention and medication management services, is an opportunity to prevent medication misadventure.
As the custodians of medicine safety, consistent engagement of a pharmacist in a patient’s care process has a significant positive impact on not only patients, but the broader health system.
