777 Pharmacists can provide Absence from Work Certificates

Your local 777 Pharmacist can help when you or someone you care for is unwell and requires an absence from work certificate.

Consultations can be conducted in-person at the pharmacy during pharmacy opening hours. Appointments are not required.

Absence from Work Certificates can be provided by your pharmacist to verify:

  • Absences from work due to illness or injury (personal leave), or
  • Absences due to illness or injury to a member of the employee’s immediate family or household (carer’s leave).

What do you need to bring in with you:

  • A form of identification (ID).
  • If you need an Absence from Work Certificate for a carer, the person who is ill must be present. Where this is not practical, a pharmacist will use their own judgment to verify the legitimacy of the carer’s request.

Important things to note about the absence from work certificates:

  • Pharmacists can issue certificates that relate to minor ailments within their scope of practice. If your illness or injury is outside a pharmacist’s ability to assess, you will be referred to a doctor or other relevant healthcare professional.
  • Absence from Work Certificates can be issued for short periods of leave of up to two days.
  • Absence from Work Certificates cannot be backdated.
  • They cannot be provided for absences relating to compassionate leave.
  • They cannot be provided for absences relating to pregnancy. However, a pharmacist may consider it is within their scope of practice to issue a certificate to a pregnant woman for a minor ailment.
  • Pharmacists are not able to issue a certificate that states a person is fit to return to work.
  • Pharmacists are not able to issue a certificate as an extension to a person’s existing Medical Certificate.
  • The service is not bulk billed and fees apply.
